Safety
Whilst the organisers will take all reasonable precautions (as below) to ensure your safety, the nature of the event is such that there are some risks involved, in particular whilst on public roads, off road - on walking / farm tracks or out at sea and you may be on your ‘own’, with no marshals close by and no cell phone coverage!!!
As we cannot control your actions, the actions of other participants or the general public, and while first aid and water safety is present it may not be in your immediate vicinity, during the event you need to take all normal precautions that you would take as if out training on your own.
Competitors must adhere to the safety rules below, and need to take into account the terrain & potential isolation, when accessing their ability to participate and their own safety precautions.
Marshall’s on the course are there to give you direction only
On the kayak leg participants need to keep close to shore and must wear life jackets
Normal road rules apply
Participants must keep left and give way to any traffic
NO ROADS or WALKWAYS ARE CLOSED – participants must obey road rules.
Bikers must wear an standards approved safety helmet
Participants in the MTB section must carry sufficient fluids and food for a 2 to 3hr ride, warm clothing and a wind/rain proof jacket, and if possible take a mobile phone
All Race Officials, including First Aid and Water Safety, must be obeyed at all times
Participants must assist any injured participants
Participants withdrawing must advise a race official as soon as possible
Anyone disobeying race rules and conditions will be liable for disqualification
PARTICIPANTS ALSO NEED TO READ THE SPECIFIC PAGES ON THIS SITE RELATING TO THEIR SECTION/S
Kayak - KAYAKS OR SURF SKIS CAN BE USED. If using a kayak, the paddler must be able to wet water exit the kayak. This means that if the kayak tips over, participants are able to get themselves out of the boat, unaided. There will be safety craft on the water, but participants must be confident in this action. Paddlers must have kayaked in the sea and be competent swimmers. Life jackets COMPULSARY, any one not wearing one will not be permitted to compete.
Less experienced kayakers are strongly advised to use a sea kayak or surf ski and to pratice before hand.
