Full course details

Except for Pencarrow Track, this is private land. Please be careful of stock, especially as sheep will have recently lambed. If gates are closed, open them & then shut them behind you.

  • Follow the walkway to Pencarrow Heads, where you turn left and ride up the Lighthouse Track to Lake Kohangapiripiri
  • When you reach the lake, a marshall will direct you left onto the Kohangapiripiri Lakeside Track. Follow this inland right around the back of the lake through some cool bush single track and board walks to the start of Cameron Ridge Track.
  • Follow Cameron Ridge Track approx 1k uphill, then along the ridge top and onto another cool downhill to Lake Kohangatera and back on to the Pencarrow Coast Track.
  • Follow Pencarrow Coast Track past the old iron shipwreck right along t the end of the track at the bottom of Baring Head, where a marshal will direct you left up the Baring Saddle Track.
  • You are now on private land! The Baring Saddle Track is approx 1k uphill, then approx 1k flattish over the top of the saddle, then approx 1k downhill to the finish at Wainuiomata Coast Road.
  • The downhill off Baring Head Saddle is not technical, but gets steeper & steeper as you go, and has loose gravel on all corners & sheer drops off the edge, so take care
  • Beware of farm gates & leave them as you found them!
  • The Mtn Bike now finishes at the Baring Head Farm Bridge, which is approx 15k down Wainuiomata Coast Road. You ride over a farm bridge and tag your road cyclist, who will be waiting just inside the roadside gate.
