Cycle Course Details

Pencarrow Station (Coastal Road, Wainui) - to Wainuiomata - approx 25 km.

A scenic and undulating course, mostly on country roads, down to the Wainuiomata coastline and back through Wainuiomata.
Estimated Times – 50min to 2hrs.

THERE ARE NO ROAD, WATER OR TRACK CLOSURES. ALL ROADS, PARKS, BEACHES, FARMLAND & TRAILS ARE OPEN. ALL COMPETITORS MUST OBEY ALL ROAD RULES & TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR MOVEMENTS. YOU MUST GIVEWAY TO ALL OTHER VEHICLES & PEDESTRIANS.

Course and - Map of Road Cycle

  • Road cyclists start at the entrance to Baring Head Farm, waiting to be tagged by their mountain biker.
    Cyclists must line up inside Baring Head Farm gate. Do not assemble on the road itself.
  • Once tagged, carefully cross the road and head south on Wainuiomata Coast Road for approx 3k to the turn around at the end of the sealed road.
  •  Cyclists then return on the Wainuiomata Coastal Road, back past the cycle start at Baring Head Farm, continuing to Wainuiomata township. 
  •  Follow Wainuiomata Road straight through 3 roundabouts to finish at the bottom of Wainuiomata Hill, where you will be directed left, off the road, and into a transition.

Parking
Cars must park north of Bring Head Farm entrance at the road cycle start. At the road cycle finish, cars must not park on Wainuiomata Road – there is ample parking in Puriri St and adjacent streets within 100m of the transition.

Safety

  •    First aid services will be provided on the course by Upper Hutt Community Rescue.
  •    Competitors must stop if they see an injured rider and give appropriate assistance. Your time will be adjusted post-race.
  •  Hard shell, standards approved helmets are compulsory.
  •  Road cyclists must ride in single file, especially when cycling through built up areas.
  • Road cyclists must be self-sufficient – take spare tubes, food and drink for a 1-2hr ride.
  • Please ensure your bike is checked by a bike shop prior to race day. We recommend Johnsonville Cycles. Ph: 04 4783042.
  • Road cyclists must obey common road rules and give way at all times to vehicles and pedestrians. 

For safety reasons please ensure your bike is checked by a bikeshop prior to taking apart.  Hard hat helmits must be worn. ALL ROAD RULES APPLY. Keep in single file especially when cycling through built up areas. If overtaking please do so quickly then return to the single file formation.

YOU MUST WEAR YOUR RACE NUMBER -  for safety as well as administration / timing purposes.

The roads WILL NOT BE CLOSED, so riders must obey all normal road rules and marshalls' instructions.  Anyone seen disobeying road rules will be disqualified.
